Change - Part 3
“Nothing else in the world…is so powerful as an idea whose time has come”.
The SETI response to the Chilbolton reply was a pretty good indication of things: 1. Why wouldn’t they have responded by radio signal? 2. Why would they have a humanoid shape? and 3. How could they have responded so quickly? SETI called it a hoax; the very people whose sole mandate it was and is to search for intelligences other than our own.
And every article after that (including in magazines like the Atlantic) refers to it as a hoax based on that assessment; they didn’t respond the way we thought they would or could. No one in the mainstream media or SETI or any government or science group discussed either the brilliance of the concept or the incredible degree of difficulty that would be involved in actually doing it.
Yet if we simply looked, the concepts in there might astound us. Well, they already do. The Chilbolton reply is a striking reminder of that, but it doesn’t stand alone. Here are just two others from 2008 and 2010:
The first one from 2008 intrigued people but it wasn't until a retired astrophysicist studied it that he discovered a rather remarkable thing: it is a pictorial representation of a foundation of not only our math and geometry but also many of our quantum formulas: Pi.

Imagine that: using a series of circles to explain a cicle 🙂. Pi is a constant in determining the radius of a circle and it remains the same no matter how big or small a circle is. This visual reference, with its ever larger circles, shows that in a remarkably intrinsic way while demonstrating Pi to the first 9 decimal places.
It is simple, original (as in, no one had seen such a thing before), and ingenious. And largely ignored. Here's the math;

The second one is in the same vein but maybe even more remarkable. This one, called the Wilton Windmill crop circle, is in binary code - you know, like we sent out in 1974 🙂. When decoded a remarkable thing appears - The Euler Identity equation. It has been called the most beautiful math equation ever devised - it uses e (Euler’s number) and Pi. BUT, like the Chilbolton reply, remarkably, a change has been made to it. The short 5-minute video linked below explains this far better than I ever could, so watch it if you are interested.

As you explore crop circles with just this one simple idea: that they MAY have meaning - then meaning starts to appear everywhere. Gobs of it, often double and triple meanings: a crop circle shaped like a windmill but the slats on the blades are binary code? - next to an actual and well-known windmill? - the message of which is continued motion? The Chilbolton reply was located where? Beside a radio telescope that was used for deep space transmissions in the 70’s? The way SETI said they should have replied? Hmmm.
Since 1990, when crop circles became more and more spectacular, they continue. Every single year. Doug and Dave, of course, are both long dead, one reportedly of alcoholism in Australia. Later on, it was a problem to have them together because they often said completely different things. And Pi, Vitruvian man, binary code, Euler’s Identity equation and the atomic number of silicon? From Doug and Dave? It’s a silly construct, but one reported as recently as 2023 in the New York Times; a persistence of denial that is quite remarkable.
There was a recent US House committee looking into UFOs that had three highly reputable people claim that there were other things out there, doing things we are incapable of, and the worldwide response was a dull thud.
The assumption we all make is that if contact were put forward, we would embrace it, all agog with wonder and joy. But the truth seems to be that we would deem that it was illogical or impractical or impossible or inconvenient: and ignore it.
That is until its time has come.
